So thrilled that our daughter Emily Goldman is jumping in with both feet to expand her art abilities, in addition to already formidable musical and writing talents. From cartoon-like satires to classical representation, she is headed for some very exciting work- can't wait to see what personal style develops down the road.

This was a sign that hung on my father's gallery at Oldtown USA in Buffalo, 1974-75 Some of my best childhood memories include “helping” my father paint huge abstracts in our basement on Parkside in Buffalo, accompanying him to Niagara Falls to sketch, or setting up for outdoor art festivals. I didn’t start painting myself until much later, but those formative experiences made me feel that making things was part of life- and that the process was as important as the end result. A member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and Western New York Artists Group, my father Irving Mink was also a research scientist at Roswell Park Memorial Institute and educator who painted and exhibited locally, nationally and internationally for 50 years. He won many awards, had one-man shows in Toronto, New York City, Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo, and his works are represented in over 800 private collections. Interesting developments lately in terms of selling online. I've had success through Zatista , Vango and my website , much to my surprise. People are wonderfully adventurous- and the sites I'm on are honest and efficient. Hope it keeps up!

Very glad to have gotten input from so many people yesterday on whether an artist should share older work or just new things. I took the overwhelming response to "retrospective"" to heart and added older work to the website at barbaramink.com. Feel better already! I think what prompted this introspection was my going back to fruit and flowers this year, which is where I started, but approaching it with the techniques I now use. Looser, translucent, not botanical illustration. Felt like a good time to look backwards as well as forwards.

I had the pleasure of visiting the Dia: Beacon museum in Beacon, NY a couple of weeks ago with daughter Emily. What a staggering experience; the luxury of the natural-lit, long galleries with minimal installation of minimalist works.  I must admit I had trouble initially with rooms of Robert Ryman's all-white paintings, but Em pointed out that he favored process over product; and while his gessoing or painting over linen was his process, the viewer's process was coming to the work with unfulfilled expectations, and being forced to deal with what does fill your mind, standing there. Interesting. The building was converted ten years ago from a Nabisco box printing factory. Do go if you can.
